Chop DMG Editor's Review

ChopDMG is a simple utility that can be used to segment large disk images.

This tool can be used pretty easily because it has a minimal interface. Loading the disk image that you would like to split can be done very quickly, if you are dragging its icon to the source file area. Typing the full path in the edit-box isn't the best option, even though you can do that too.

The output area has the same type of edit-box, but with a little modification of the functionality. You can give either the full path of the first segment of the file or the name of the first segment.

In the program's interface, you have the possibility to pick the chopping mode like chopping by the maximum segment size or by the number of segments. Use this option according to your needs.

The lower side of the interface provides the log of the application. By pushing a dedicated button, the program gives you the possibility to clear the log with just a simple click.

The splitting action went well without any error. I've even tried to move a segment after the splitting. The DiskImageMounter requested the missing segment, so after I provided it the disk image was mounted without any trouble.

Pluses: a very simple and easy to understand user interface, the application works pretty fast.

Drawbacks / flaws: the close button is disabled from the interface so you need to close it from the Dock Menu.

In conclusion: it is a free tool that allows you to split very easily your large disk images.
